Some Gaming Updates

I have played a lot of games since I last posted about them, and I feel it is time to share some thoughts.

Bioshock 2 was a great game. It was easy to play on it’s hardest setting and with the vita-chambers turned off for an added score. With the way it ended, I feel it may leave Rapture for the next one, and this is a great idea to keep the game current. A lot of people were mad that new art work was scrapped and that this was basically a rehash. I feel it was a bad ass one, but moving on would be the best option here.

I got around to Assassin’s Creed 2 and enjoyed it. They broke the mundane structure of the first one, and while it did get tedious, it was simply because it was a long game. This is not a bad thing in my book. This game was another one that left me feeling like the next would take place in modern or future times. However, I have learned it will not. The next one will be do out in a years time and feature the same protagonist in the past. Bad idea. They had an opportunity for what I feel to have been a bad ass game.

Lastly, Bad Company 2 is the first time I ever felt like a game was a PC game on a console without having been a PC release first. Bottom line, get it!

UFC 2009 Undisputed & Punch-Out!! Wii

Last night I picked up 2 new games. UFC 2009 Undisputed for my 360, and Punch-Out!! for my Wii.

I was afraid that the UFC game would be as hard as the last one I played back on the Dreamcast, and after my first two matches on-line with a friend, I thought this to be the case. However, I came back and won the next 3 matches. There are a lot of different moves to remember, and the controls take a little getting used to. After my 5 on-line matches, I decided to create a fighter and go through the career. I won all of my first 4 matches, but all by either KO or TKO. I was trying to get a submission, but I have not had any luck doing so. I unlocked 3 achievements during my sessions last night.

Ultimate Knockout: From the gassed state, KO an opponent in any mode.I got this by miraculously taking down “Rampage” Jackson while I was getting my ass kicked.

Ultimate Highlights: Dominate the opponent in all 3 scenes of a replay segment. This is self explanatory. I did this in the career.

Wanted: Flying Mouthpieces: Mouth piece travels more than 3 meters when knocked out. I landed a devastating blow to knock out one of my opponents. I caught him in the mouth with a nice counter punch as his punch just missed.

I threw a little Punch-Out!! in the mix. I only got through the first circuit, and I was really pleased with the motion controls. I didn’t seem to skip a beat. However, I don’t have the balance board to use for dodging. It look a little bit to remember the game mechanics from previous versions, but one I got the hang of it, I was drawing stars and dodging punches. The Disco Kid, who is a new character for this version, beat me the first time around. I then realized that I had to wait a little while before I dodged his punches, and that I needed to dodge in certain directions.
